Rosemary Kennedy Award
Rosemary Kennedy Award in Disability Leadership
The CIR has established an endowment in support of this prestigious international award, recently re-named in memory of Rosemary Kennedy. In response to a $100,000 challenge grant, every dollar received for this endowment will be matched one-for-one by a generous anonymous donor.
The Leadership Award has been presented annually to those who demonstrate a commitment to improving the lives of people with disabilities through international rehabilitation and the promotion of policies and practices that further inclusion. Eight distinguished honorees have received this award. These include Bobby Muller, Co-Founder and President, Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation; Mary MacMakin, Founder of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Support for Afghanistan; and Ralf Hotchkiss, Founder of Whirlwind Wheelchair International.
Support for this endowment will promote the recognition of disability advocates and issues of the disability community on an international level. The first Rosemary Kennedy Leadership Award is to be presented at the 2006 Annual Dinner. The date, time and place for this dinner will be announced shortly.
